Lion’s Head Legion Branch 202 News
Remembrance Day Ceremony Well Attended

12 December 2017

Submitted by Fred Van Tooren, PRO

Lion’s Head Legion Branch 202 members attend the
Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Cenotaph in
Lion’s Head on November 11th.
Remembrance Day was damp and cold but was still successful with people attending Lindsay Road 20 Cenotaph and the Cenotaph in Lion’s Head. After the ceremony people came back to our Legion for a pot luck lunch. Thank you Ladies Auxiliary for looking after that. A big thank you to the Cadets who assisted all the people at the ceremony with the laying of the wreaths.

The Poppy Campaign appears to be a success too, with most people wearing their Poppy proudly. I was also impressed by the young adults from our local High School who donated to the poppy campaign and wore their Poppy with pride, thank you students!

     At this point I would like to let you know what some of YOUR donations are used for;
  • Assist ex‑service personnel in need or distress, including food, shelter or medical attention for Veterans and/or their dependants.
  • Comfort for Veterans in hospital.
  • Medical Appliances, Medical Reserch and Training.
  • Donations for Disaster Relief as declared by Federal and Provincial Governments.
  • Education Burdaries.
  • Remembrance Day Posters and Litrary Contests at the Schools.

Tim Soper in a reproduction WWI uniform attends
the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Cenotaph
in Lion’s Head. Tim’s uniform featured
badges from his Grandfather’s Battalion, the
  Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry.
At the Memorial service in Lion’s Head we had the honour of having Tim Soper, the Grandson of a First World War soldier, dressed up in a reproduction WWI uniform. The only item that is authentic is the rimless “Brodie” Helmet. The Badges on the arms are of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, his Grandfather’s Battalion. Thank you Tim for participating.

The tickets sale for our Handicap Accessibility Access Project are going well, if you still want to participate in buying a ticket please phone Don Colter at 519‑793‑3473 or Fred or Jean at 519‑795‑7823. The draw for the $500.00 will be held on December 7th at 4:00 p.m. and the result will be posted in the Bruce Peninsula Press and on the web site.

If you like to play Darts come on out on Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. and/ or on Thursdays for Darts and Cards at the same time. You do not have to be a Legion member to participate. There is also Euchre on Friday nights at 7:30 p.m.

Last, but not least, if your Flag is ripped or discolored – please replace it!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Lion’s Head Legion.
