Lion’s Head Legion Branch 202 News:
10 Bags of Pop Tabs Collected for
Wheelchair Fundraiser

23 October 2018

Submitted by Fred Van Tooren, PRO

(L-R) Ken Diebel and Fred Van Tooren deliver 10 bags
of pop tabs to the Elora Legion. To date, over two
thousand wheelchairs have been purchased for
those in need with donated pop tabs.

Congratulations to the Tobermory Legion on their 80th Anniversary in September from Branch 202 Lion’s Head.

Honours and Awards were held in September with one of our best attendance that we have had in a long time. The Pot Luck was excellent with a great variety of food. Congratulations to everyone that received their Pins and Honourable mentions for years of service to the Legion.

Ten bags of Pop Tabs were delivered to the Elora Legion for processing by Ken and Jean Diebel and by Jean, my wife, and yours truly. Over two thousand wheelchairs have been bought so far with the Pop Tabs that people have saved and donated to the Legions, thank you for doing that and thanks to the Tobermory Legion we already have 4 bags for next year.

Our Legion is now Wheelchair Accessible with a ramp and automatic door opener installed. On October the 20th we are having a “Fund Raising Dance” for the purpose of raising funds for the new Handicap Wheelchair accesible washroom that we intend to start building this coming Spring. Entry to the dance is by donation and the music is by the group “Ferndale Flats” who are willing to do this at a reduced rate.

Fall is here so Darts and Cards will be starting the 1st Thursday after Thanksgiving at 1:00 p.m. Darts for meat will be on October the 27th at 1:00 p.m. Anyone that would like to participate is welcome to come, you do not have to be a Legion member but if you like to join you are more then welcome.

If you need more information go to our Legion website: lionsheadlegionbranch202.ca.

Last but not least, look after your Flag. If it is torn or discoloured please take it down. It doesn’t look good to our tourist who visit the area!
