What is happening at the Legion?
  • The Nominations and Elections for the new executive will take place at the April General Meeting. Think about how you might help the Legion this year. Is there a committee with which you would like to help? Is there a position for which you would accept a nomination? Let a current executive member know if you are interested in standing for a position or helping on a committee. Decisions are made through the democratic process. We agree to disagree and discuss with different points of view. The sharing of ideas benefits the Legion members.

  • Nancy Alleyne, Veteran Service Officer and Seniors can be contacted at 226-974-2505 or nancyalleyne33@gmail.com. If you know of a member who would like a sunshine card, call or visit, call Nancy. Nancy continues to work closely with our veterans as the need arises. The newly installed WIFI at the Legion will be used with meetings with the veterans. Thank you to the Ferndale and District Lions and Lioness Clubs for their donations to share the cost of the WIFI.

  • Renovations to the Legion for the wheelchair accessible washroom started in the fall and will resume in the spring. The most recent lottery fundraiser will have a draw for a $1,000.00 winner on Saturday, February 15th at the cabbage roll dinner and silent auction. If you can donate an item for the silent auction, call Sharron Colter at 519-793-3473 or sign-up at the Legion. Thank you to all who bought a ticket to this sold out dinner. All proceeds of the evening will go to the Accessibility Fund.

  • Youth Public Speaking at the Lion’s Head Bruce Peninsula District School is tentatively booked for Tuesday, February 25th. A thank you goes to Kim White for organizing this event. The monetary prizes are available from the 50/50 Lottery Account. Legion members are welcome to attend, in uniform if possible. Meet at the school by 9:00 a.m. The Public Speaking Judges are community members. The young people are to be congratulated for their research into topics about which they speak with confidence in front of their peers.

  • Darts and Darts: Mondays and Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. Have fun while playing darts and meeting either Legion or community members. Cribbage is played on Thursdays.

  • Friday Night Euchres: The Branch will be hosting the Friday Night euchres at 7:30 p.m. until the end of June. Cost is $3.00 at the door with the option to buy a 50/50 Lottery ticket. A light lunch is served. If you can volunteer to make a lunch for a Friday Night Euchre, call Don Colter at 519-793-3473. The light lunch consists of two loaves of sandwiches and two desserts of either cookies or squares or cake. There is a sign-up sheet at the Legion.

  • You do not have to be a Legion member to play darts or euchre at the Legion. Members of the community are welcome to attend.

  • January 50/50 Lottery Draw Winner: Frank Mattucci Amount: $45.00

  • Monthly Draw 50/50 Lottery tickets are available at the Legion, Marydale’s Restaurant, Peninsula Pharmacy and from Legion members. The February draw will take place at the General Meeting on February 6, 2020. Buy a 50/50 ticket to support your community. All proceeds are returned to the Community.

  • If you have a member in your family who is a Veteran, there is an opportunity for your family member to be remembered in Volume VII of the Military Service Recognition Book. Thank you to Ross Webb for his work on researching and preparing submissions of many of the Lion’s Head Legion veteran members. The Volumes 1 to VI are available to families, in libraries and in schools to encourage “In Remembrance, Lest we forget”. The free Military Service Recognition Book program is possible through donations from Ontario businesses, Unions and individuals.

  • This June 2020 the Legion celebrates its 89th Anniversary. It is never too early to start thinking about the upcoming Royal Canadian Legion Branch 202 Lion’s Head 90th Anniversary to be celebrated next year in June 2021. This will be a special occasion to honour the veterans who began the Lion’s Head Legion at the first meeting on Knife Island near Stokes Bay, Ontario.
