Hard Work is Honoured
By Legion Branch 202

7 October 2014

Submitted by PRO Mary Smith

We would like to recognlize Caitlin Ottaway who, with
her brothers Ryan and Jonah Henderson, had their fellow students and Teachers collect pop tabs for wheel chairs.
They collected about 30lbs of pop tabs at their
Montgomery Village Public School in Orangeville.
Thank you Staff and Students for doing this.
On Tuesday, September the 16th, our legion honoured some of the hard workers of our Legion. All Members of a Legion receive a medal with a blue and gold ribbon attached when they first hold office. All members holding office then are given a metal bar to attach to the ribbon on their medal. Some members have quite a few bars as they have held or now hold more than one office.

This year we were pleased to present George Bowman with his Membership bar. Sharron Colter and Don Colter were presented with their Past Officer’s Medal. Sharron is our Veteran’s Chairman and Don is our Lottery Chairman.

Every five years each member of the Royal Canadian Legion receives a pin. Members of the Legion are divided into three catagories:
  •     An ordinary member is either a Veteran, a Fireman, Policeman or R.C.M.P. member.

This year we recognized John Knowles who has been a member for 70 years. Jawn Kolohon has been a member for 45 years. James Simons has been a member for 25 years and Delma Gabrielson, and Andy Varga who have been members for 10 years.

  •     The second category is called Associate Members. These members are either married to an Ordinary Member or is the child of a person who qualified as an Ordinary Member.

Larry Adams, Shirley Adams, Cindy Cowley, Tom Cowley and Jean Diebel received their 20 year pins. Bill London received his 15 year pin. 5 year recipients were Guy Aubin, Michael Nangreaves, Mary Smith and Susan Uren.

  •     The Final Category is called Affiliate Members. This category encompasses all those who believe in the Royal Canadian Legion but do not fit into the other two categories.

William Kilbreath received his 10 year pin.
