Lion’s Head, Branch 202
How Your Poppy Donations Are Spent

16 December 2014

Submitted by Richard Smith, Chairman
Poppy and Remembrance Committee

Money donated to the Lion’s Head Legion’s Poppy Fund is public money and is therefore classified as a trust fund. Primarily, the funds raised through the Poppy Campaign directly support veterans, serving military and their families.

In the Lion’s Head Branch, the fund primarily supports veterans who are in need financially; however, the Branch uses the money for other specific purposes. Every September, the Branch and Ladies Auxiliary holds a dinner for veterans in the area. Children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren of veterans are eligible for bursaries to further their education.

If a veteran is ill, the Poppy Fund pays for a small gift for the veteran.

For the past two years during the Branch’s Remembrance Day Services, it was a privilege to have cadets on hand to assist in the service. Money from the Poppy Fund sponsors cadet programs.

Every December, youth at Bruce Peninsula District School receive cash awards for entering poster and writing contests sponsored by the Branch’s Youth Education Program. Money from Poppy Fund sponsors this program.

On behalf of the Branch, I wish to thank the members of the Community of Lion’s Head and area for their generous donations to the Poppy Fund during this year’s campaign.
