Happenings at the Lion’s Head Legion Branch 202

      On Tuesday, September 19, the Ladies Auxiliary with many volunteers made and sold over 1,100 meat pies to the community. Thank you to the Ladies Auxiliary, Branch and community members who helped with this industrious endeavour.

      Corn Hole has finished for the season at the Legion. Darts begin on Mondays as of October 2nd at 1:00 p.m. and Thursdays with cribbage at 1:00 p.m. except the first Thursday of each month. Darts are open to anyone in the community as you do not have to be a Legion member.

      In September, the Early Bird Membership Campaign began for Legion membership renewals. Now may be the time that you would like to join the Legion. Membership applications are available online or from the Legion Branch. Call Susan Uren for more information about membership at 519-793-3888.

      On Tuesday, September 26, the Old School House Seniors, OSHS enjoyed a delicious roast beef dinner prepared by Janice Jackson. Kailey from Home and Community Support Services, HCSS Grey-Bruce explained the areas that are available to help keep older adults remaining in their home longer and help maintaining independence for adults challenged with different abilities to enhance their quality of life. The helping areas include Hot and Frozen Meals on Wheels, Friendly Visiting, Day Away, Transportation, Overnight Respite and House­keeping. For more information call 519-372-2091 or 1-800-267-3798. Rod Layman and his band entertained with many popular songs. Peter Jackson, Old School House Senior President presented a cheque to Branch President Richard Smith and Ladies Auxiliary President Jean Shearer as a donation.

      Next meeting and luncheon for the Old School House Senior Club, OSHS is Tuesday, October 2 at 11:30 a.m. RSVP to Janice Jackson at janjackson260@gmail.com.

      The Bruce Men’s Shed is meeting at the Legion on Monday mornings from 9:00 – 12:00 a.m. Men are welcome to have coffee and chat with others and/or choose a project to work on with others. E-mail brucemensshed@gmail.com or phone Gerry at 519-793-3005 for additional information.

      The next Lion’s Head Legion General Meeting will be held on Thursday, October 5, at 7:00 p.m. for all members. Zone C-4 Commander Rob Butchart and Deputy Zone Commander Steve Rice will attend. Note the change of usual time to 7:00 p.m. to enable members who work during the day so that they may attend a membership meeting.

      Nancy Alleyne is the Veteran Service Officer, Senior and Rental contact for the Legion Branch. Call Nancy at 226-974-2505 if someone needs a visit or phone call.

      The Poppy Committee is preparing for the Remembrance Ceremony on November 11th. If anyone wants to order a wreath in memory of a family member, contact a Legion member for more information.
