The Executive and General Meetings were held on Thursday February 6, 2014 with 9 and 20 members attending respectively.
President’s Report
The Legion has received Certification of Acceptance of the Branch Regulations.
The Zone Convention will be held on Sunday March 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Port Elgin at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 340. Rick, Sharron and Don Colter will attend. Contact Rick if you want to attend.
There are changes to the Driver’s Test for seniors 80 and over. The information about the changes is included with this newsletter.
Rick thanked Sharron and Martin Hogarth for designing the very colourful calendars of events for February and March. The calendars have been sent to the members.
Rick announced he will be away from February 15 to February 24, 2014. Happy holidays, Rick!!
The Executive and Branch need replacements for the positions of Padre, Historian and Seniors Officer. George Bowman will be acting Seniors Officer and Rick and Fred will ask people in the community to consider the Padre or the Historian position.
Donations:
- Martin Hogarth will be given a Foodland Gift Certificate as a donation for developing the new Lion’s Head Legion’s website. (www.lionsheadlegionbranch202.ca)
- The Bluewater Regional Science and Technology Fair will receive a donation of $75.00.
- Ecole Saugeen Secondary School will receive a donation of $50.00 to support the student trip to Europe to learn more about the Canadian Military’s role during World Wars 1 and 2.
- The Bruce Peninsula District School will receive a donation for $50.00 to support the students’ attendance at the OSAID (Ontario Students Against Impaired Drivers) Leadership Conference.
- The Public Speaking will receive a donation of $240.00 for prize money. The Public Speaking will take place on Friday February 14, 2014 at 9:00 am at the Bruce Peninsula School.
The donations are paid from the 50/50 Lottery Ticket proceeds. Buy a ticket each month to support the donations given to the community from the Legion. The February 50/50 Lottery draw was won by Donna Vanderburgh. The amount won was $55.00. Tickets are available at the Legion, Marydales, Stokes Bay Store, Mo Ready, Phyllis Bain and Don Colter, Lottery chairman.
The Super Bowl on February 2, 2014 was enjoyed by 29 members and friends. The chicken wings were cooked by Fred and enjoyed by all. Jean Vantooren, Vi Linyard and Bob Mc Arthur helped in the kitchen. Desserts were cakes and pies. Thank you to the ladies who did the baking and everyone who prepared the wings.
Liaison Report:
Sharron reported that the Ladies Auxiliary with assistance from Branch members is hosting the Valentines Dance on Saturday February 15, 2014 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Hope to see many members enjoying the dance. Music by DJ and lunch served at 11:15 p.m. Tickets available at the door. ($7.50 per person)
The Ladies Auxiliary will be making Meat Pies on Tuesday March 4, 2014. Order turkey, roast beef and hamburg pies at least a week in advance of March 4. If you order pies they must be picked up at the Legion by 3:00 p.m.
