September Newsletter 2015
     The Zone and Deputy Zone Commanders will be at the Legion’s Executive and General Meeting on Thursday, September 2, 2015, for their yearly visitation and inspection. You are encouraged to attend the General Membership Meeting at 2:00 p.m. Please wear your uniform (if you have one). Come out and support your Legion.

The 2016 Legion Membership dues are due for $50.00 a year.
After December 31st dues are $55.00.
There is cost to operate the Legion and your dues help cover these costs.

Early Bird Draw:
     Members paying dues before October 31st will have two (2) chances for 2016 Dues Refund.

     Dues paid before November 30th will have one (1) chance for 2016 Dues Refund.

     Draw will be held at the December General Meeting.

From the President, Rick Nolk:
     Rick has submitted an article to the Bruce Peninsula Press detailing articles that were stolen in a theft/break in at the Legion on August 3rd. Unfortunately the loss to the Legion is over $6,000.00 including the large screen tv, stereo surround system, artifacts given to the Legion, damage to the back door and frozen whitefish from the freezer.

     Thank you to the volunteers at the Fish Fry Dinner. The Legion can always use more volunteers for their special events.

Membership Updates:
     Welcome to the following new members who were installed on Thursday, August 6, 2015: Robert and Karen Winters, Brian Allen and Vera Osborne. Also welcome to Chad Collins who will be installed as a new member. Ask a friend or family member to join the Legion.

A Special Thank You
     Thank you to Fred and Jean Van Tooren for their donation of $5,000.00 to the Lion’s Head Legion in memory of Jean’s brother.

Report from the Poppy Chairman:
     The poppy package has arrived and the Poppy Committee will be meeting. This year the feature on the poppy package is the 100th Anniversary of the poem, “In Flanders Fields”. Let Richard Smith know if you want to canvas for poppy donations in Lion’s Head this year. The Cadet Corps in Owen Sound will receive a cheque for $600.00 from the Poppy Fund.

Report from the Senior’s Chairman:
     On September 22, 2015, some of the seniors from the Lion’s Head Legion membership and seniors from the area Seniors’ Clubs will be “Bus Tripping in Bruce County”. The bus will pick everyone up at 9:00 a.m. in the Legion parking lot and will return at 7:00 p.m. The day consists of visiting the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre, the Ontario Bruce Power Generation Complex for lunch and a tour, the Hoity Toity Cellars outside Mildmay and Walkerton and Crabby Joe’s in Hanover for supper. This trip is sponsored by the Ontario Senior Secretariat and the Lion’s Head legion. Full funding for the trip has been approved and given by the Ontario Senior Secretariat Community Grant.

     The members who have reserved a place on the bus will receive a phone call to confirm their place on the bus by September 8th.

     If you have not stated you wanted a place on the bus and you might want to attend call Sharron Colter at 519-793-3473. A waiting list will be made and if places on the bus become available you will be called.

Report from the Bursary Chairmen:
     Applications for the Legion Bursary program are available online or at the Lion’s Head Legion. If you have a young person in your family entering College or University next September, encourage them to fill out an application.

Honours and Awards Program:
     Join us on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 for a Social at 6:00 p.m. and a Pot Luck Dinner at 7:00 p.m. Honours and Awards will be presented to deserving Legion Branch and Ladies Auxiliary Members after dinner.

50/50 Lottery Draw
     The August draw was $59.00 won by Shirley Bricker.

Meat Pies
     The Ladies Auxiliary Meat Pies will be available for pick up between 2:30 and 4:00 p.m. on September 30th at the Legion.
