October Newsletter 2015
Thursday, October 1, 2015 is the next Legion General Meeting. Wear your uniform if you can and join us to meet the Zone C-4 Commander, Sheila James and the Deputy Zone Commander, Dean Weir at 2:00 p.m.

Our mission is to serve Veterans, which includes serving military and RCMP members and their families; to promote Remembrance; and to serve our communities and our country. (2015 Mission Statement by Dominion Command)

Be aware of the Spring Fling will held at Tara Legion on Friday, April 1, 2016 for a Head Shave-Off between Zone C-4 Commander, Sheila James and Deputy Zone Commander Dean Weir. Pledge sheets are available at the Lion’s Head Legion for fundraising initiatives.

Have you signed up for the upcoming Poppy Donation Campaign?
The Legion does not sell poppies. The Legion asks for donations. The Poppy Canvassing will take place in Hellyer’s Foodland on October 30th & 31st, November 7th & 8th, and at the LCBO on November 7th & 8th.
The Legion donated $600.00 to the Cadet Corps in Owen Sound. The cadets will assist again this year with the Remembrance Day Services.

On September 22, 2015, a 56 Passenger Coach from Kunkel Bus Lines left the Lion’s Head Legion parking lot at 9:00 a.m. and returned at 7:30 p.m. The Seniors Bus Tripping Bruce County was sponsored by the Lion’s Head Legion Branch 202 and paid for the Ontario Government, Ontario Seniors’ Secretariat, Senior Community Grant.
The participants toured the enhanced display of the first world war exhibit at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre; visited the Tiverton Visitor Centre and toured by bus the Bruce Power Energy Centre; visited the Hoity Toity Cellars by Walkerton and had dinner at Crabby Joe’s in Hanover.
The Seniors of the Legion and the community reserved a seat on the bus quickly. The grant application was prepared by Sharron Colter, secretary of the Lion’s Head Legion last March 2015.

The yearly Veteran’s Dinner will take place at the Legion on Tuesday, October 6, 2015. Sue Halliday is convening the dinner and she has sent invitations to the local Veterans. The Lion’s Head Legion, Branch 202 sponsors the dinner.

Have you purchased your 50/50 Lottery Draw Ticket for October 1, 2015?

The September 3, 2015 draw was for $70.00 won by Comrade Shirley Bricker.

The 50/50 Lottery Draw is used to give funds back to the community.

Check your October Calendar for events at the Legion. Everyone is welcome to join into the activities of darts, euchre and cribbage on specified days. On a Saturday, visit the Legion for Darts for Meat.

It is with great sadness that the Lion’s Head Legion is saying goodbye to Comrade Ted Hammill and Comrade Bob Sear. Our thoughts and sympathies are with their family members at this time. We will remember them.

Respectfully submitted by Sharron Colter,
Secretary, Lion’s Head Legion, Branch 202
