January Newsletter 2016

Happy New Year!!
Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous new year!
The New Year’s Eve Dinner and Dance at the Legion sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary has been cancelled due to slow ticket sales.

The Lion’s Head Legion Executive is inviting members to become more involved with the running of the business of the Legion. Attend the next General Meeting on Thursday January 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. to learn more about the Legion. We need you to become more involved. There have been many new members join the Legion in 2015 and we need to know your interests and talents that you would be willing to volunteer at the Legion. Let us know how you want to help in 2016. Some of the areas for volunteering are committee work such as maintenance work, landscaping, grass cutting, special dinner preparations and serving, Ladies Auxiliary pie making and attending general meetings on the third Thursday of every month at 2:00 p.m. If you can volunteer please call President Rick Nolk at 519-793-3860 or Sharron Colter, secretary at 519-793-3473 to be appointed to a position or have your name put on a list for when the need arises.

Lottery Updates: The 50/50 Lottery Draw for $90.00 was won by L. N. Charlton in December. Remember to buy your Lottery draw ticket at the Legion, Stokes Bay General Store or Marydales in Lion’s Head. The 50/50 Lottery Draw gives back to the community. In December donations of $100.00 were given to St. John Ambulance, $150.00 to the Lion’s Head Food Bank and $100.00 to Women’s House.

Thank you to everyone who has paid their 2016 Legion dues. Congratulations to Doug Cooper who won the free one year Legion membership.

The Dominion and Ontario Commands of the Royal Canadian Legions will be closely monitoring the treatment of Veterans by the newly elected Federal Government. Several issues continue to be top priority at this time. One issue is taking care of Homeless Veterans and ensuring appropriate care for our military personnel and Veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, also known as PSTD.

Bridge will not be played on Friday afternoons at the Legion during the winter months. Euchre at the Legion will continue on Fridays at 7:30 p.m., except December 25th and Jananuary 1st. Euchre returns on January 8th.

Please notify me of any changes in addresses for home or e-mail. I need this information in order to send you the monthly Legion Event Calendar and Newsletter. Notify me if you no longer want to receive this information by e-mail or by a mailed letter at dshcolter@cabletv.on.ca or 519‑793‑3473.
