19 members attended the General meeting on Thursday February 4, 2016. George Bowman reported that there are 101 paid up members. The executive would like to see more of these members attend the General Meetings at 2:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month. The business meeting is usually one hour. Hope to see you at the meeting on Thursday March 3, 2016.
President Rick Nolk would like to thank everyone who attended the memorial service for Comrade Doug Cooper on Saturday February 13, 2016 at the Lion’s Head Legion. He would also like to see more members attending the monthly General Meetings.
What is happening at the Legion?
- Darts are well attended on Mondays and Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. Cribbage is available on Thursdays.
- Friday Night Euchre continues at 7:30 p.m. A light lunch is served.
- You are invited to attend the Saturday “Darts for Meat” for fun, socializing and supporting your Legion.
- The Legion will have nominations and elections for the Legion Executive for 2016 – 2017 in April.
Elections will be held at the General Meeting on Thursday April 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Do plan to attend.
If you have time to volunteer your services for a position please let a member know. We need you to
attend and vote for the Executive members. Positions for nominations and elections are president, first
vice-president, second vice-president, secretary, treasurer and four positions on the Executive
Committee.
Donations:
- The Lion’s Head Legion made a donation of $240.00 to the Youth Public Speaking Contest at the Bruce
Peninsula District School. The Public Speaking Contest took place on Wednesday February 10. Four
judges from the area attended with Kim White, Youth Education Chairman.
- A donation to the Golden Dawn Residences for the purchase of a special lift to be used by the
residents from the Royal Canadian Ontario Command and Legion Branch and Ladies Auxiliary Charitable
Fund has been approved.
- A donation of $75.00 was sent to the Bluewater Science and Technology Fair.
Youth Education: There will be three public speakers from the Bruce Peninsula District School who will compete at the Zone C-4 Level in Owen Sound.
Ontario Command reported an update on the “Veterans Leave the Streets Behind” program which is helping “homeless Veterans” get settled into an apartment. There are still many Veterans who need assistance and many are suffering from PSTD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Monthly Lottery Draw: Amount of $55.00 was won by Violet Linyard of Miller Lake, a member of the Branch. Congratulations Vi! Remember to buy your Legion Lottery Draw ticket for $1.00 to support your Legion and the donations given to youth programs, community organizations and local charities.
