January Newsletter 2018
|
Thank you to everyone who has paid their 2018 Legion dues. The Legion Early Bird Membership Draw for a free membership will take place at the General Meeting on Thursday January 4, 2018. If you still need to renew your membership send a cheque for $50.00 before January 1st or $55.00 after January 1st to Lion’s Head Legion, PO Box 302, Lion’s Head ON NOH 1W0
The mission of the Legion is Remembrance of the Veterans. Caring for and sharing with the veterans and having fun is important. Zone C-4 Commander, Dean Weir visited the Lion’s Head Legion recently. In his greetings to us, he said we must bring the fun back to the Legions to make the Legions places to which Branch and community members want to visit and support.
Check out the fun activities at your legion:
- Weekly euchre at the Legion will resume on Friday January 5, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. Light lunch served and 50/50 available.
- Darts are in full swing at the Legion on Mondays and Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. Join the fun and meet the dart players who are members of the Legion and the community. You do not have to be a Legion member to play darts, so invite a friend or neighbour to play darts. Cribbage and cards are played on Thursdays.
- Check your monthly event calendar for special events and activities at the Legion.
- Darts for Meat is scheduled for Saturday January 13th and 27th at 1:00 p.m.
Many thanks to the following for their work and contributions during 2017:

- Thank you to Don Colter and Fred Van Tooren for organizing the Legion Accessibility Lottery Draw. Congratulations to Wendi Schwindt of Lion’s Head who won $500.00 on December 7th. Thank you to the community and Legion members who bought tickets to make this fundraiser a sellout success.
- Thank you to Fred and Jean Van Tooren for organizing and preparing snacks at the Legion for the dart and card players. There is a fun group of dart players that enjoy supporting the Legion with their participation weekly.
- Thank you to Gerry Gregory of Lion’s Head who has conscientiously devoted his time to keep the grounds around the Lion’s Head Cenotaph in good condition. He also spearheaded the community members in Lion’s Head who planted the many red and white tulips for the 100th celebration.
- Thank you to President Kim White for organizing the Lion’s Head Peninsula School Remembrance Poster, Poem and Essay contest. There are monetary prizes provided by the Legion to be presented for twelve first place winners, thirteen second place winners and fifteen third place winners. Congratulations to all of the students who participated in this Remembrance activity.
- Thank you to all of the executive members for your work and commitment to the Lion’s Head Legion. All elected and appointed positions carry their own responsibilities while working as a team for the members, the Veterans and their families and the community.
The regular monthly 50/50 lottery of the Legion was won by Corey Farago from Kitchener. She won $50.00. The monthly Lottery Fund has made donations possible to the Lion’s Head Food Bank, the Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary and special requests from students in the area. This fund will support monetary prizes for the upcoming Legion Public Speaking Contest at the Lion’s Head Peninsula School in the New Year.
Next 50/50 Draw takes place January 4th.
In 2018 the Lion’s Head Legion members will continue to remember, care for and share with our Veterans and their families.
