Membership dues are $50.00 if paid by December 31, 2018 for the 2019 year. Members
renewing before December 1st will have an opportunity to win a one-year membership
in a draw. Dues are $55.00 after December 31st. Membership dues should be mailed to

November 1, 2018 - 50/50 Draw of $42.00 Won by Jean Van Tooren
Support the Legion’s Community Outreach Program by buying a 50/50 ticket. The money is
donated back into the community to the food bank, charitable organizations and youth
requests for educational activities. Next Draw – Thursday December 6, 2018.
Remembrance Activities and Services: Thank you to the Poppy Committee under the
leadership of Richard Smith as Poppy Chairman and Wayne Morningstar as assistant Poppy
Chairman! Thank you to Karen Winters for scheduling the Poppy Canvassing Campaign with
the members. Thank you to the Legion Members who canvassed for poppy donations and
attended the Remembrance Day Services at the cenotaphs at Lindsay Corners and Lion’s
Head on Remembrance Day. The pot luck luncheon was enjoyed at the Legion on November
11, after the services.
The help from the cadets from the Owen Sound Cadet Corps was
appreciated during the laying of 35 wreaths. The Lion’s Head Legion supports the cadet
corps every year with a monetary donation from the Poppy Fund.
The Youth Remembrance Day Essay, Poetry and Poster Contest entries will be judged on
Friday November 23rd at 9:00 a.m. Certificates will be presented for the winning entries
from the Lion’s Head Peninsula District School. All first place entries will go forward to the
Zone “C-4” Competition. Thank you to Kim White for organizing this contest with the staff at
the Lion’s Head District Peninsula School. The Lion’s Head Poppy Trust Fund supports the
winners with a monetary prize.
Volume V of the Military Service Recognition Book is now available at the Legion. The
Military Service Recognition Books are available free to schools, libraries, family members
and Legion members through the generous financial sponsorship of businesses and unions.
A picture and a short write up about a veteran or active serving military personnel can be
included in Volume VL This is a wonderful way to remember our veterans and active military
personnel for future generations.
Submissions must be at the Legion by May 1, 2019.
Thank you to Ken Diebel and Fred Van Tooren for supporting the pop tab program for
wheelchairs as several large bags of pop tabs were recently delivered to Elora Legion. Over
2,600 wheelchairs and other disability equipment have been made available through this
volunteer program. Ken Diebel reported that the Tobermory Legion delivered several
more bags of pop tabs to him. Thank you Tobermory Legion. Keep saving the pop tabs.
Karen Winters, as Seniors’ chair would like to know when a member needs a card, a visit
or a sunshine call in case of illness. Karen can be contacted at 519-793-4137. Let’s stay

- Ladies Auxiliary Annual Community Christmas Pot Luck Luncheon on Tuesday
December 11th at 12:00 p.m. All ladies of the community are welcome. Bring your
favourite salad, hot casserole or dessert. If you wish, you can bring a gift valued at $15.00
for a gift exchange. Santa will visit and help with the gift exchange.
